5000+ cows need an awful lot of feed, and produce an awful lot of poo, the area needed to produce the food and move the poo would be substantial, the road system, and the density of population, would throw up so many problems, I cannot see it happening

Once you get your head around the logistics, its probably not as hard as you think. Running a large bio digester won't be any different to running a large dairy herd, they cart feedstock in from miles around, and send out digestate(sh1t) to willing arable farmers. Wether a dairy farm can be as profitable as a bio digester is another matter!
