Another day in "lockdown" with the rugrats, walked down to the main road with them for some truck spotting.
Roads are very quiet, mostly trucks hauling farming products.
Plenty of spud trucks.
Not the best pictures need a new phone I think.

I love those Scania 3 series eight wheelers. Still a nice tidy red and white one with a sleeper cab and insulated body working out of a quarry near here. Alloy wheels and stainless bumper, she still catches the eye.

Another question for you @kiwi pom

What are the grill like things at the base of the trucks windscreen for?

Some great photo's there, for many years one of our now finished local hauliers used to had a very smart fleet of Volvo's like the white one on spud duty.

That Mainfreight ones really nice!

What are the axle / gross weights like there?

Its a bit of a minefield to be honest. Generally axle limits are quite low. Eight wheeler trucks and four axle trucks running 44T gross was the norm.
Regulations changed 5 or 6 years ago allowing 50T on most routes but over nine axles, that may have changed again.
You can run higher weights on certain routes with special permits.
The combination you use affects what you pay in Road User Charges, which is the scheme we use for paying Tax on diesel.
Its all way to complicated for me I'm afraid. Load to the weights the boss tells you, keep all the paperwork up to date on the truck and cross your fingers if you get pulled up.

As melted welly says they're stone guards to try and protect the windscreen. we have a lot of gravel roads on the south island and even the main roads are mostly just chip seal.
Kiwi road building skills are, um interesting:rolleyes:
When I drove milk tankers we were forever changing them. Think we had 5 on our truck one year, one lasted exactly a week(n)

the corrugations on the gravel tracks are something to behold. I hit some once at speed in an mf4270 with mounted mower. Thought my world was about to end

On my travels I didn't manage to get to NZ , but I did get to Canada. We had clay and gravel roads there, pot holes but no corrigations. They must destroy your vehicles? Do you have speed limits for driving on them? Or is it until you shake your teeth out?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
