@Farmer Roy .How are things turning out? Is it all as bad as you feared? It's good that you can harvest something.

we are actually very fortunate to be able to harvest anything & very fortunate that “feed” grade prices are relatively good, considering most of the northern NSW grain growing areas had about 300 mm rain in 3 - 4 weeks & that this plain had at least 2, if not 3 flood events over it in that time.
However, we have still lost 100’s of 1000’s of $$$$ income, due largely to the downgrading of grain quality. We aim to grow high protein milling wheats, but when down graded to feed there are significant discounts. Durum is a good example, the top grade, DR1, was worth over $600 / t before all this downgrading, it will be worth over $700 . . . However, “feed” prices were hovering around $250, but no one is actually quoting a price now until the new year. So, $350 / t x 300 ha durum x how many t / ha ???? Big $$$
The breadwheat, while not as extreme a price variation, we will be back at least $100 / t or more, x 5 t / ha x 200 ha . . .

Then there is the lower test weight from all the weathering, which has lost us tonnes, along with the physical grain loss of grain that has shelled out, it all adds up.

then, it is always just a sh!t fight harvesting in these conditions, machines working hard, use more fuel, getting trucks in & out of farm tracks is more challenging -,ie loading B Doubles on the public road on hard ground.

where we are harvesting now, I didn’t think the actual heads went under water, but they must have, because there is a lot of silt in the heads & the grain, which is causing dramas with the dust jamming augers, making grain not want to run properly etc etc. That big 80 tonne bin of mine, there is an auger that runs the full length of it, that feeds the central unloading auger. A truck driver burnt the belts out on it this arvo - the silt / dust is binding it up & making it hard to turn. I burnt out another set of belts on it but am worried about breaking the chain drive . . . So tomorrows project ( if I can buy more belts - the whole country seems to have had the sh1!s with 2021 & has decided it will just shut down with many businesses not opening again till next week ) is to buy as many belts as I can & try & get this bin empty . . .

Anyway, as I said, we are very lucky to be able to harvest anything & VERY fortunate to now have a full profile of soil moisture for the next crops.

thanks for your interest 👍
