Watched those Kiwi wagons tipping when I was over there. The chaps I saw jacked it round, tipped the unit first by jacking the trailer around to one side, then pulled forward until the trailers rear end was now close to the previously tipped heap and then, tip the trailer.

I saw them tipping outfits like that on road construction in Canada. They tipped the trailer load first, then tipped the front load by driving forward slowly whilst the trailer rolled over the load. The drawbar of the trailer had a triangle sort of tent piece along it to deflect the tipping load. Looked a good way of doing it if you had plenty of room.

They look like bulkers and would probably tip in pits with drive over grids.

how do they manage to tip without the drawbar getting in the way ? that type of outfit common in nz but never seen any like that here

All depends on what your carting and how long your drawbar is. Obviously tipping grain or fert over a grid is no problem. If you have a long drawbar and a bit of room you can jack knife the trailer right round out of the way, a good operator can get the trailer that far round the tail door is only a step away from the drivers door.
Also if your carting gravel or track rock (although perhaps not in bins as big as the ones on the Pye truck) you fit chains to the tail door so they only open a bit, raise the hoists drive forward and trip the doors at the same time and spread the material in a nice smooth layer. Its really easy, honest:D
Of course if your in a tight spot or have a short drawbar it only takes 30 seconds to drop the trailer.

The first few times it takes a little sorting out but once you get the hang on it ito a doddle, when spreading stone getting the joins perfect takes a little longer, great system and I can't understand why we don't do it here?

Saw Mr Pye's new truck the other day, looks good. He's put some nice gear on the road the last few years.
The Pye group has grown into a big outfit.

and that's just one of the brothers:eek:

This is the truck I got picked up by when I arrived in Aus, Mrs Pye picked me up from the airport and we caught up with the truck at an intersection and it took me the 200kms to the farm. Unfortunately I slept most of the way but I do remember the jake brake .

Its the truck on the right;) the left 1 was a farm truck
