Load it well, though, as you would just need to resort to a dinky little 20 foot trailer behind it to be within length limits.

Surely it would be able to gross the same as a uk truck but would carry less due to been heavier

Volvo's survive in much tougher applications at higher weights in other parts of the world though.
US ones seem to struggle running 80,000 lbs down the interstate.
I think dealer back up could be an issue too though, doesn't seem the number of techs, trained up on them.
Don't know why they've never looked at Euro trucks, with the big cabs nowadays, they'd do a lot of jobs well.

My farm tenant purchased five of them, drivers liked them but once they were out of warranty it was a struggle to keep them all operating, it seemed an expensive experiment.

That’s my point, they seem to struggle but the cab overs are fairly reliable, although the electrics can be temperamental. I can’t figure out why they won’t work there other than dealer/parts backup and the conventionals are made differently.
Shame really, the Euro stuff is miles ahead and America isn't exactly the outback I think the big Volvo's and Scania's would be great there.
Frieghtliner are only Merc/Fuso/ Daimler Mack are Volvo and Kenworth/Peterbilt Paccar.
Best not to talk about International and yet they are now owned (I think) by Traton who own Scania and MAN, so you'd think they could build a decent truck for the North American market.

I'd drive a Euro spec Scania 770 if they were available in the states.

Yes, that is true. The tare weight would be fairly substantial.
