Got a small herd of pedigree Hereford Cattle, we are upgrading the housing this year, would it be worth looking at self locking yokes or not? I have 4 bays of a shed and wondering what's the best to put at front for feeding?

Most certainly worthwhile, stress free routine tasks like checking tags , no calves through barriers and you can catch the cows while tagging and castrating etc.

Yes, expensive compared to other options but could be a labour savour for the future, tb testing and other things, jourdain would be my choice of make.

If you're TB testing then reading, can you be sure they'll all get their necks in the yoke on the reading day? If one hangs back are you still going down the crush route?
We have 2 older cows that know the sound of yolk catch lever getting turned and stand back, a few more do same if a stranger about.
But usually catch ok if turn handle just after a usual feed.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
