Log splitter

I had an Oxdale and it really would take some beating value for money. It helps if you are used to an axe and know where to try to split because they don't "go through anything".
Never found anything it couldn't chew its way through but got it stuck a time or two.
I have a Posch 30 ton splitter that really will go through anything, it will cut sleepers across the grain but how often would you want to do that?
Oxdale, and I sold mine nearly 10 years later for the same as I paid for it new.

Well looks like its going to be an Oxdale, like everything, there are a lot of varying models! mine will be mainly for splitting Alder, Willow, and now Ash, no great diamerts, and I can chainsaw them to any length to suit..

We’ve got a posch 30 tonne for splitting into 1000mm lengths for biomass boiler. Brilliant bit of kit but takes 3 people to get through a lot of work.

looked at various option here and still none the wiser the issue is with a lot is they only work on small straight logs. While real wood collected is all thickness and shapes. So bear that in mind unless you are buying in or copsing wood. We are will using the PTO driven sold school splitter. Porsch etc looking £5 - £10k making it none profitable for the small firewood business we run Oct - April. On top of that there would be an investment for a cone splitter for the excavator for the wide trunks etc. Also consider the cutting mechanicsm the boss didnt want to be sharpening chains and especially since I'd be doing it no use for me to be messing with chains. It has to be blade. Still dont know the answer.

We’ve got a 20t posch and that will split anything, but I’ve heard good things about ox dale if you’re just doing ‘normal’ splitting. A big splitter is great if you need it but probably a waste of money if not

I've got a 10t ram type splitter that I got off ebay some years ago & I've yet to find anything that it can't split. Got the head wedged a couple of times when picking the wrong spot on odd shaped bits. Even the knottiest oak & elm submits. The likes of ash, alder, willow & etc don't give it any bother. I often use it to pre-split lumps that are too-big to go on the Ferguson saw bench.

What did it cost of you don't mind me asking? Serious bit of kit!
They are about £3k
I got one for the fun of it and I like chopping logs. I think it needs a bigger table (which I will make) if not doing 1m lengths.
Missus made me sell my two other splitters which half paid for it.
Put really tough stuff on it and you can stall the 35 if on tickover. As said, they need more than one operator to make proper sense of them.

I have a oxdale splitter if it packed up or was stolen I would not buy another one.
I find it hopeless on hardwoods and that’s using 75hp International. Bought it brand new some years back from Oxdale, I did complain about its ineffectiveness but never really got anywhere with them.

Have you adjusted the releaf valve on the splitter spool valve?
