Long forgotten Livestock Marts

This is not Congleton cattle market, it is J Haydon's yard in Wharf Rd, Biddulph about 1960 - my photo as are Banbury 1993 and Leek Market 1950s - no problem though, I'm glad they're being shared.

Haydons were regulars at Newcastle U Lyme (Mondays) Congleton (Tuesdays) Leek (Wednesdays) Banbury & Chelford (Thursdays) Mold & Beeston (Fridays) Uttoxeter (Saturdays). Also Crewe & Shrewsbury

Yes found that out thank you. Can't find any photos of Congleton use to go there from school at lunchtime with it being across the road from school.

Would be interested to see any other Ag related photos you may have, if you would be kind enough to share them with us.

I'd love it if you would kindly add any photos with proper credit to yourself on the Loaded Up and Trucking thread in Pictures and Videos section, please :)

Nearly 30yrs ago, I regularly used to go to Doncaster market on a Saturday with my uncle and cousin, and Beverley on a Wednesday in the school holidays, no pics though, sorry. Both now long gone. Malton market as it currently is wont be there much longer, though theres a new one on the way.
Doncaster Market was knocked down and is now the site of a College I believe.

dereliction is always sad but the loss of a mart is a loss of a way of life over the years they have been the gathering point of the farming community so many have leant on the rails and chewed the fat, for some it was the only time they would socialise its a good feeling to have a good pen of stock to show rather than just bundle them on a wagon does any one remember Don Weston he used to buy barren cows and fat stock a great man he never let anything go cheep
Don weston he used to wright everything he brought in a little pocket book and fold it up and put it away in his top pocket every time as if he was done buying but would but the next lot and so on a relation to us buy marriage

I used to buy calves and store pigs in Donny, on a Saturday. I was surprised when it closed, as it seemed to be thriving. It was a big market for pigs. It was still fairly modern when it closed, identical layout to Derby and also Gloucester, I think.
