Longest dry period

How long will you allow a cow to be dry before you decide to kill her instead of dry her when Incalf?

Could be interesting

Also how can I explain to someone grass doesn't grow for nothing? And cows shouldn't be kept dry for 7 months because they will be dry through the summer on cheap grass...

long term dry cows usually get ,and lay down fat
getting dry cows to lose condition is bad news in the long term

if a cow needs to be dry for more than four months ,there is usually an underlying reason why her production has dropped to that level in the first place

hang her up in my opinion

I totally agree, and the aim is not to have any cows with extended dry periods but you will get a few and I'm convinced Kexxtone are brilliant in these cows...as long as they don't spit it out.

Longest dry period I've ever given was 13 months, and that was before kexxtones! Had to drench her for a couple of weeks with glycol but she did do 12500 that lactation.

So giving 7.5 liters a day, 10 weeks pregnant, as fat as it will ever be is an easy decision for you then?
That would be a really easy decision for me, it's the ones that arnt incalve and you have given up on but will give 20+litres, how long do you keep them about (If she doesn't tick any other boxes aswell)
