I thought I read somewhere that El Niño ends in April. I hope so or I’m getting a different job. Arable farming is becoming a pointless exercise here.
It will. Annual TFF drought thread will re-appear by early May:)
Driest year recently was 2018. Remember sowing round wet bits when it dried up in late April followed by best 16-17 month spell of weather I can remember.

So looks like it could be over by April. That makes this cropping year a write off but hopefully things will improve for harvest and beyond. I think people seriously underestimate the impact this year will have on our industry. It will undoubtedly drive us towards greater uptake of SFI than anybody anticipated and reduce production to record lows. Government seems to be in denial or ignorance.

Soil at 5.7 degrees here, had 4 days without rain ending last weekend. Drizzle seems to have been constant. Fields that we have ploughed look in really good nick, anything left is too skittery on top to do anything with yet. Not gonna be sowing anything any time soon.

Winter crops apart from osr doing nothing, pigeons flocking, picking away constantly.

Still repairing drains.

2018 was the easiest harvest I can remember. You could go any day of the week of your choosing and it was all dry. Bliss and so easy.
