I actually wish they still made them,we have had 4 - two early ones and two freelander2s and found them all to be reliable and they all went over 100,000 miles without much expensive bother.

I had a freelancer 1 2004, I took it from 25k to 140k replaced clutch and rear diff in that time.
I’ve had a 2010 freelander 2 for 2 years and it’s been great, HSE automatic, it is greedy on fuel compared to the old one.
Nice to drive and not too big, ground clearance is only issue if doing off roading, decent set of tyres and it goes most places.

These aren't that bad if you want a cheap run around.can be picked up for little money I quite like them last year we bought a few with problems cheap did them up and sold them.easy to work on and parts are easy to get and cheap.View attachment 832157View attachment 832158
Both my brother and I have/had them, not the coolest motors but have been very cheap to run,my dad has a 2 and it’s been good, not as economical as the 1s though.

Seems a colossal variation of experience here.
Mainly from non owners!

Have a 2013 XS SD4 Auto here with 65k, faultless so far... great for most tasks, 2 kids, prams etc. good grip over fields and through muddy gaps, comfortable on long motorway runs, very handy in around town. We don't tow much with it but I do bring calf meal home with it on occasions, over 2 tonnes and it handles it fine. The 2.2D was available with different outputs, TD4 is around 158hp and SD4 190hp.

Previously had a Discovery 3, it was in a different league to drive, tow with etc. but reliability was shocking and it cost a fortune to run, at least £1,500 per year in parts/repairs plus servicing, plus MOT, plus over £500 to tax. It finally had to go after it blew the engine at 74k and LR quoted £12,500 to put in a new one!!!

Bought a new Ranger Wildtrak to replace the Disco and a year after that I bought the Freelander as a runabout, (Ranger is a beast in a car park). Have the Ranger 3 years and apart from servicing it has had 2 tyres fitted. Freelander here 2 years and the same.

Had about 4 here over the years , they are just boring, boring to drive boring to look , not a proper 4x4 can’t tow much and the diffs go in them handle like a boat on the road, they belonged to my parents in their 70 s n 80s about the age you have to be to want a free lander I’d say .

Are you confusing the Freelander 1 with the Freelander 2?
Very different vehicles
My experience is as with most owners above. Our Freelander 2 is a far far better vehicle than the two Freelander 1s we had. 100k miles done now and had only one wheel bearing and rear diff bearing. It does a fair amount of towing so am very happy with that!
