Wow! Our sucklers need a minimum of 10 bales a head to get through a 200 day winter. Feeding silage at the moment, about half winter consumption rate as they can graze as well. They will almost certainly be fully in by the end of October and hopefully back out the first week of May. Thats why farms are cheaper here I suppose.....~ 200 this year, but less cows and will dry some off. Have got some hay for youngstock though
last year I only housed for 84 days. Cows will be out at night until December at the earliest and graze forage crops by day all winter - Dry off at the end of Feb and onto forage rye. I try not to start a tractor in summer. I think I managed 2 weeks this year.
We have a lot of machinery but cleaning it storing it costs money also and if it's in a shed it needs to be insuredI'm never sure.
But I appreciate any type of compliment!
