Out spraying the maize this week. The pre em was starting to wear off. All the fert went in the seed bed this year rather than top dressing with nitrogen.

Really?
Thought the opposite, lot of October calving cows and empty cows. All things that have slipped out of some high yielding autumn calvers.
we bought some decent priced i/c, actually knew the farm that bred them, not the farm that sold them. Brown Swizz didn't seem very popular either. Anything with a 'fault' got hit hard. And a #### from up near us, certainly made the trade on the 1st calvers, from W & Knight
didn't stay to see the i/c hfrs sold, though a text said they were dear. Would have been keen on the stirks at the end, but, got enough to do back here, and you never know how long, it takes to get back, good run today though.
Our thoughts were generally easier, ours were dirt cheap, but we have had cows, from where they were bred, and they have been excellent, 4 plain barreners will pay for them !

I thought the cows on Wednesday were reasonable ok they were older cows but had the calf out of them and milked on then culled out you would make a tidy return I would think.

it was the not warranted i/c and empty, running with the bull, that looked serious money, mainly younger ones came up near here, they looked stupid, high fertility herd, not i/c yet ........
made the i/c ones look cheaper. But no real standout £2,000 cows, 1 i think.
Didn't see fromes, but averages on dairy looked lower.

Those cows where doing 27l+ and where monstor big from a 10k herd. 1200 bought them, milk off grass and cake till Oct...positive seasonality, so 50p then knock em down. Seems a good little job to me

Haven’t done a pre em here for 4 years now and haven’t regretted it,all has plenty of slurry as well
we are selective about using one. If the maize really gets going, will shade out any weed growth.
saw some seriously good crops, going to exeter yesterday. But we used/still say, knee high, by 4th of july, and that date isn't far off.

This has a bit of catching up to do and desperately needs a drink ! But had two cuts of grass off it first and went in a month after the bit above . Probably done 6t/ac already so will be interesting how it performs tonnage wise . Zero fertiliser. Duxxbury
