It is a question that perhaps needs a sensible look at, as there are probably quite a few dairy farmers asking themselves the same question

Nothing if you actually paid yourself what you could be paid elsewhere.

Supply AD plants with fodder? And maybe grow a decent cash crop like " cannabis"
 
Small farms generate a much higher income per acre for the farmer and staff than bigger farms. You only have to look around to see that reality in practice.

Trouble is it's still difficult to earn enough...

Caravans, Shepard’s huts anything involved with tourism, then rent the rest out.

Had a chat with a bank manager about chickens last week. He said that ship had long sailed now, it was good and he had clients making a lot from it a few years ago and continuing to do so but investment in new units was not a great prospect

If you own it the reality is nothing will pay near as well as selling it and living of the invested income

Only farm if that’s what you REALLY want to do as even good farming business make little financial sense
