I have a shell company that I need to complete simple VAT returns for. I dont want to fork out for accounting software just for this business alone so I want to use the spreadsheet option to complete my VAT returns.

I understand you have to upload them through a bridging company come April?

Is anyone else going to stick with spreadsheets and how are you going to upload to HMRC?

Yes it will be possible to merely amend your spreadsheet and by using a bridging service upload the correct information to HMRC's servers. There are a number of software suppliers on the HMRC list who offer this service ( full list here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/software-for-sending-income-tax-updates).

I've been talking to the chap who has set up and runs Cirrostratus Exedra and hope to use his service (https://www.vat.direct/), its pretty cheap, about £20 per year for one VAT number on quarterly returns. I have to say it isn't the most user friendly system, but it does work, I have successfully managed to upload a trial vat return to the HMRC trial server using it, so as soon as I can register my VAT numbers with the new system I'll be using it to make my actual returns.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
