Making your own vr maps.

If you've got proper vr shape files for one operation, you can doctor the rate per zone in excel (<=2003) and re-save. I got my tame precision farming chap to knock up dummy plans for each field to get me started. No doubt you can do it in gatekeeper or suchlike, but excel is more my bag.

I used to do vr maps for nutrients in a former life.... So long ago I don't recall if we did any variable rate lime maps but the principles would be the same as for variable P or K... Used Farmplan with the precision farming module.... it also calculates how much you product you will use, all clever stuff, however as I recall it is a pricey bit of software and if you haven't used it before its not something you will master and knock our a VR map in 20minutes with!

Is it sufficient to just adjust the rate for individual VR zones, wouldn't you most often want to tune zones too?

teslacoils, what tools are you using when drawing shape files covering arbitrary zones, not only field borders?

How much would one have to pay to make it free with JD?

Gatekeeper is out of my budget but probably OK for the majority here.
Nothing, Operations centre is a free platform from John Deere.
All you need to do is create an account, the system takes a bit of getting use to but is pretty easy one you get your head round it. You can manually draw a field boundary then use the agrian app (part of operations centre) to create a vr map either with field zones yield map or just draw polygons set rates etc and away you go.
I’ve probably made that sound easier than it actually is but one you get set up and get the hang of it it’s not to bad (considering it’s free?)

No need for JD hardware? Files compatible with different brands?

Once played with My JD and gave up. Means it really should be simple before I can handle it. Perhaps unfair to expect that.
