I got a Makita DCS 500 which is a 50 cc engine, when I bought it came with a 18 " bar in my opinion it would run better on a smaller bar something like a 15 or 16 bar it's currently on a 5/8 chain but was wondering if it was worth going to a 0.325 chain bar and sprocket would I notice any difference to justify the extra money or just stick with 5/8 and get a smaller bar for it ??? Thanks

You meen a 3\8th,, to change it to 325 you have to change the drive sprocket and bar.
50cc will run up 18inch bar, preferably 325,050 72 drive links, 3/8 is more for bigger saws unless you go for a 14inch 3/8,,058,,52dl

Search .325 rim sprocket in Ebay, 7 tooth should be fast enough. But I'm not a 100% certain that that they all have the same inside diameter and splines. But some of the sellers give the sprocket dimensions. Dont know why sites like northen arb, who sell chains and bars dont list clutch drums and sprokets, which are consumables.

Also the kerf of the bar is diferent ,,thats the slot around the bar ,,1.3mm is 050 ,1.5mm is 058 and 1.6 is 063
Thanks for your reply the kerf size what decides that slot size ? I have found a 7 tooth .325 rim sprocket but I m not sure what kerf my new bar and chain should be to be right, I know it's got to be .325 but not sure of the rest if that makes sense thanks

The rim will take both 1.3 and 1.5 ,,I run 1.5 (058 ) on everything,,so if you are going to use a 15inch bar its 325/ 058 /64 dl ,,18 inch is 72dl
