I can't help but keep thinking about how I'd be paying an electrician more per hour for his van and screw drivers than some men with over £100k worth of machinery....

:scratchhead:

Become an electrician then.

It ain't all that fun, being up and down ladders, on your feet or knees all day, freezing your fingers off in the cold and getting pee wet through.

Driving a tractor is like having a day off in comparison.

What I was getting at was I charge decent money compared to others and just how cheap others are.

No doubt some sparking is a bit naff, I certainly wouldn't want to do it, but I've never seen one in a pair of boots.

Nearly went to college to become a plumber, but decided I would somehow enjoy and be more satisfied being covered it sh#t and the general ag life even if it was for considerably less return.

Post #505 and surely one of the saddest facts is that there won't be many of the employing farmers and contractors who don't realise most of these low rates are unsustainable but just pile in before the man and tractor goes bust.
Presumably also taking the big businessman line that there's always someone else willing to do it

We were originally primarily 'farm contractors' but over the years they probably equate to less than a quarter of our customer base, the rest are private land owners, horsey folk, small holders, etc. I enjoy site work, especially if working alongside/with a good gang of other trades folk!

Well myself I can use chain saw strimmer, a few other power tools plus dumper tractors so pays to have a few trades behind you, used bsc to cut grass tough machine to handle but could be big earner if want cut rough grass were can't get a tractor too
