Looking at getting one of these so looking at options. Looking at making the job safer. Thinking a 10ft wide one or at least a decent size, any opinions? Also would need manitou brackets so anyone found any keen prices with CE marks. Keep on the right side of health and safety too. Tia

I may be wrong but the UK are one of the few EU countries that allows man cages, so they cannot actually be CE marked. I could be wrong though.

Remember that the cage and the loader it's used on must be LOLER inspected every 6 months.

Good for taking the initiative. Slight issue is to keep on the ride side of HSE you are supposed to have the telehandler tested regularly as well. If not they look at it the same as not having used a cage if heavens forbid something went wrong.

Grey area - banned in Europe - suppose to lock out tilt and crowd lever - on manual JCB the Red Spike next to Lever dropped down a hole to prevent Tilt & Crowd Working. Some Manitou 4 m wide ones floating about off Manitou Rotos - made of Aluminium folding sides nice baskets.

It has to be plated at full forward reach on the truck IIRC. We have a small (4' x 4') man cage, on JCB 535 95s, and the maximum they would let us plate it at is 200kg.
I think it’s half of the max capacity at full reach. Also worth noting they’re not allowed on a telehandler that can lift to a height of mote than 6 metres.

Ya. As @jimbo69 says: man baskets are only for use in unforseen situations. Any job that could be planned or prevented by maintenance cannot be done from a man cage in the eyes of HSE. Doesn’t matter how trick or tested your telehandler is.
For a cherry picker or scissor lift you need an IPAF ticket!

i think that its actually 7metres and possibly partly why manitou 735 and 741 are in fact 6.9 metres:) unless that was just coincidence! More than 7metres requires controls in the basket or possibly just a engine cut out switch?? not sure on which.

Maybe the laws have been updated, but Manitou and Merlo made a range of high lift Machines which are heavily modified and are used with Basket Control Electric Joystick, machines are still restricted to around 200-300 kgs with sensors on the basket floor linked into the SLI , which cuts out if you exceed weight or reach. Things like rear axle ram locks and other safety features were included.
Lots of cheap Access platforms about now as the Construction Industry is going through its 10 yearly shake out
