Hi all. I have a manitou MLT 741-120 62 plate. All oils seemed to be ok and all greased ok but when I turn full lock going forward there’s a sort of grinding noise coming from the middle of the machine (I think).
All ujs seen ok but this machine is more sluggish than it used to be. Any ideas !
Many thanks John

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Little bit vague on the discription of problem here imo!

Nosies on full lock are either ujs on axle drive shafts worn out or been replaced with a common undersized joint because they didnt measure it right! (Theres 2 ujs with same cap size but 1mm different width!)

Or the most common is lack of oil changes or wrong oil spec used in the axles. The limited slip diff in front axle likes regular oil changes and a bit fussy on the spec of oil.

Wheel nearing failure is also common and if not done in time can destroy all the gears in wheel hub.

Handbrake calliper on transmission is also common to sieze up but easy fixed/cured.

Loss of power may or may not be a completely different issue so one job at a time.

Think it will be a perkins common rail engine but there is a slim chance it could be a Mercedes engine? If merc the lack of power is an easy one.

Hi. Thanks for that. Admittedly I don’t know when the axles or hubs were last changed so I take it that will be the first port of call.

Thanks for that. Changed hubs, axles an gear box and it has made a vast difference (don’t think genuine oils where used before). I have not had time to do 90 deg angle box yet but have done engine oil and air filters but the machine still seems to be lacking in power. It has the Perkins engine in it. Any ideas !!

Blocked air filter, Lift pump packed up, fuel filter blocked, or inj pump buggered. Turbo's tend to be obvious if they've died!

Open the tool box behind seat. Next to a diagnostic port is a plastic screw cap under it is a glass fuse for the ecu controling hyd flow. Check the cap hasnt been knocked off and fuse fell out or fuse blown.
If it is ecu will keep hyd pump on 100% flow rate all the time instead of 60% below 1100rpm and when above 1100rpm it wont be restricting it back down according to engine load.
Also check engine revs freely up to about 2400rpm if not adjust throttle cable to suit, throttle pot switch on top of gearbox worked by a stupid cable! You will have seen that when struggling to change trany filter!

It'll be a common rail engine timbo. Dont have lift pump other than hand primer. Its all built in to the main delphi pump which is way more reliable than the one on your machine.(y)

Also check the intercooler hose at top of radiator pack to engine they sometimes split or rub a hole in them. I got several of these on the shelf!

Go buy a can of the genuine manitou axle oil and do both front and rear.
Use any ep80-90 oil in the wheel hubs and 90 deg angle box.
Where does one find the 90 Dee angle box? I was only reading that up last night I have a transmission oil gauge under the boom but have never heard of this angle box. I have a Manitou MLT 629

My Nanitou lacked power last week and I found it was something to do with the transmission disengage button on the joystick I think the lad I have helping me must have pressed it and whether it stock half way or something I don’t know but Manitou was slow and sluggish in 3rd gear now after pressing it on and off a few times she is fine again
If anyone had any further comments about this I would.be grateful to hear them
Also got me a multimeter and checked ALL the fuses and found three blown fuses so alwaysca good idea to check your fuses

Them dump switches are either on or off nothing in between so just coincidence.
Chech hand brake caliper isnt seized up thats very common and easy cured.
