Manitou mb26c forklift

Have a problem with the steering on a manitou forklift, if I jack the back end of the machine up the steering works ok, if the machine is on the floor it’s stiff.... problem started after taking a lift ram of for re sealing... worked for half a day once new ram was back on and then went solid..
Any ideas... thought it may have been air in the system but worked it for ages when jacked up and when put back on the ground it went solid straight away.

Might be the orbital unit ,bottom of the steering column ,,@ACEngineering is the manitou specialist

Try steering ram seals first? Then you got to look at pump and orbital unit.

The rest of the hydraulics are all working all be it with a slight delay once the lever is pulled... would you preference the pump over the orbital? The steering wheel is solid...no creep as such when pressure is on it.

i think it will have a separate pump for steering on this old girl. could be driven off the timing gears or could be a twin pump off the crank pulley.

She definitely has a twin pump... trying to figure out cheapest option first...

It was the pump on our old girl.
Did all the things you have hoping it wasn't.
Wasn't dear in the end, but not off manitou dealer
