As Pistonbroke mentioned immobiliser........ if it has a sensor ring around the back of the key switch,it'll need a little fob to be near it to start...........

2012 should I think have 2 panels under the boom which hide the batteries.
It could have 2 in there if replacing you want to get yourself a couple of varta E44. Or it could have 1 big single battery like the old ford 1000series tractors did possibly a 622 style.

Make sure the red forward reverse switch is in neutral.

Do all the dash lights come on?
Theres a starter motor fuse in the fuse box in front of throttle pedal.

Slight change of subject but mine is 2004 Perkins, what's the glowplug setup? No mention of one or a light when starting. Always starts well but haven't had a very cold winter to test it

You dont really need them imo unless its maga cold like -5 or more.
So long as it spins over properly that should be enough.

Yours has no light you just turn and hold key just before the start position and guess about 15 seconds. Got 4 glow plugs on it. Little maha fuse box next to your battery. One of the fuses in there is for it and theres a relay next to it aswell but it's not a timed relay or anything fancy just one to stop it burning out the wiring and key switch.

Is it a perkins engine or merc?

If its merc them starter motors are pure sh1t.
I do a better one alot cheaper.

But anyway they have 2 small wires going to a relay. Them wires like to break off cause manitou just crimped them and left no support after the crimp.
If its merc and you attempt to short the starter out be carefull.
The ignition switch triggers the merc engine ECU. The ECU then triggers the relay which then powers up the solenoid on starter.
If they didnt have the relay it would blow the engine ECU. And if you cross wires willy nilly you could also blow up the ECU! That will be very very expensive!

If perkins that will also have an ecu but unlike the merc there is no relay on the starter. So you can just short it out but so long as ECU is powered up to let it fire.
It's also very hard to access!

The engine is a Merc thank full for the AC post I was about to try & short starter but now very reluctant I have checked every fuse in both fuse boxes & as boom is fully down guess I have no access to batteries so running out of options

Right
Take the panel off engine pod by back wheel.

Find that relay on starter and see if wires are not broken off.
Check that red emergency stop button you need to twist it and it pops up.
Check starter fuse
Wiggle starter relay
Make sure in neutral and ignition on.

Go to engine on the top right hand side are 2 buttons one labeled stop and one start!
Never pressed them but I assume they work remotely? It's a lorry engine really I think that's why it got them.

If you want to short starter out I would remove the wires off that starter relay bolted to starter motor and power it manually so no damage can be done to ECU.

As I said before them starter motors are junk and cost a fortune.

so latest update I got her started today by hooking up 12 v to trigger wire. I moved it around & let it tick over for an hour went back out & it started. Left it 2 hours & now it won’t start ??

Get a test light bulb on the trigger wire see if it lights that up. Something like 10watt bulb at a guess? 21watt absolute MAX remember it's the ECU switching that relay so doubt there be alot of current coming out of ecu to do that.

If it appears okay then check you battery connections then call me for a decent starter motor.
