Massey 240 engine locked

Hi folks,

thanks for the help with the starter motor, it came back from Rotating Electrics Yarmouth fixed and has been fitted.

When the key was turned, it turned the engine a very short way and then the engine stopped turning, feels like a dead stop and the starter won't turn it further. Its been sitting outside since last summer in Scottish weather and i'm thinking its partly siezed or hydrolocked with water ingress via the exhaust pipe.

I can tow it to break the siezure but if its water in the bores, it needs getting rid off to prevent hydrolock bending a rod. I thought I could take the rocker cover off and screw in the tappet adjusters so the valves are slightly off their seats so the water has a path when the tractor is towed.

Any thoughts or ideas on that :)

I think you will at least be able to slacken them maybe even remove them. The hold down nuts the rear of the injectors should be tall nuts which makes it easier. Bonnet is easy to remove in a 240 and just slacken tank bolts and tilt if you need to.

Yes but the Ex valves will open near TDC one way. I did a few cars this way when flooding was bad and no garage had time to take heads off. Takes a bit of thinking about but does work as quick fix and back on road.

It might be a dropped engine valve, if you take off the rocker cover that should show, best check that before starting if the other suggestions don't fix it.
