Considering getting a 5455, either drop nose or standard bonnet.

What areas need to be to looked on a second hand machine? Are they a reliable tractor etc. Any weak areas similar to the 3000 range?

Which gear box is the best ?

@Humfy in 'the other place' has had one for years; he'd be good to talk to. There've been a few upgrades since they launched in 2003 boosting it up to 125hp. Popular loader, we looked at buying one (used) but came across a nice 4345 which did us for what we needed. That was a droopy - I like that visibility and never had any overheating issues

Got a standard nose tier 2. Had it for almost 2 years. Does approx 100hrs a month Roading an loader work. Been very pleased with it. Had an expensive breakdown with needing a new crown wheel and pinion though after approx 8 months ownership. Had done a lot of heavy loader work beforehand we believe.
Dyna 4 is excellent. Ours coming up to 5000hrs. Most ours has done is approx 110 miles in a day.

Got two hi viz, 07 & 08, one 2wd, one 4wd with loader,

Both have had odd electrical issues but nothing I couldn't research and sort myself and the one had a hydraulic pump at 4000hrs ish.

Dyna 4 for the win
Blue Button (dual flow) if your thinking of a loader.
Get one with the push out hitch, one of mine hasn't got it and its not easy to hook up as the other.

Just done a deal to replace our 2009 5445 with a 2013 5455 off veg farm in England. Good tractors for loader work. Our 5445 can get hot on slurry pump or mower, something to keep an eye on if doing heavy work with drop nose. Not a bad cab to spend a day. Think dyna 4 came in 2006 onwards.

Been pleased with ours (year 2011 / 7000hrs) except rubbish front axle.
Both front wheels have 'fallen' off 3 times. The nut in the hub just rips off. We have now welded them to see if that helps.
As usual, the dealer 'has not seen that before' however they usually have any parts needed on the shelf.

Good tractors. Cooling can be an issue in the snoopy noses. For a few summers I buckrake for a man with one and in dry stoory silage I was having to blow out the radiator 2/3 times a day to keep her cool.

Dyna 4 is a good gearbox, although sometimes a few more gears, especially for field work would be nice, that’s where I would prefer dyna 6.

Front axle wear can be a problem with them

I have a 2012 5455 Dyna 4 and love it, 5000 hours on the clock, plenty of power for compact size. Perfect loader tractor with snoopy bonnet and hi viz cab. Front axle bangs alot when in and out of 4wd, anyone any advice on this? Thanks
