massey 575 pto clutch

Did a 590 dual clutch single handed. Bought a centraliser for lining up the plates. Bottle jack to hold up the cab and gearbox, trolley jack for the engine. level floor helps. Just done a 3080 clutch change and laid a metal sheet on the floor to aid the trolley jack rolling. Neither job is anything to be scared of.

Is it independent or has it a dual clutch? Almost all are independent. What's the problem with it? Could be the pump.

Independent, its a friends tractor, he says if you start the tractor up even with pto disengaged it will turn the shaft slowly but with no power, eg if the haybob was on would spin it when lifted but if you dropped it so there was any load it would stop, then when you engage the pto its only slightly better but actually seems to improve when warmed up.

It's turning all the time due to the brake not working. Most of them do that but I don't think it would be normal for the brake to be so bad that a hay bob would turn. I'm wondering if it might be lack of oil pressure? Need to split it I think do change aux pump. Has it multi power ? does that work ?

It is the PTO brake that is worn if the PTO still works the haybob. It takes more hydraulic pressure too work the brake than work the PTO.

Will have to find out about the multi power, if it was a lack of pressure would it not get worse when warm?

test port is on left hand side cover. not easy to get to with fuel tank in place. looking for 230 to 270 psi when engaged. i would guess brake is worn and plates are worn or warped. has to be split at back end to get it out

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
