Massey 590 lift lowers very slowly

Hi folks,
I hope you are all keeping well.
I was using our 590 today on a sprayer, and noticed that the 3 pt lift is very slow to lower even with the weight of the full sprayer . The 3 pt hasn't been used in a few months but was lowering fine last time out.Its lifting good and fast. I thought maybe the drop speed knob was moved to slow but it's still in fast position.
Any ideas ??

Check that the lowing speed control is actually in the fast position on the moulded quadrant on the side of the gearbox. Its been at least 30 years since I've driven one of those but I seem to remember that the dial inside the cab is connected by a stiff wire to the lever on the gearbox side and that it can go over-centre.
Failing that [is it] the Mk3A selector valve? That could possibly be turning with the cab lever but sticking in the forward/backward direction. Not sure if that is possible with that selector/diverter valve model, but its worth checking.

so if you lift the arms by hand they drop easily?? ie nothing siezed. RH side cover where the dipstick is, take the rod off the response lever. move the arm fully backwards (slow response) it should move 1/8" forward then you should feel it hit the response lever inside. push it fully forward and you should be in fast response (fast drop). if you have a selector valve check that the lever is in the vertical (linkage) position and corresponds to the linkage position in the cab.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I hope it's something simple at fault. I ll have a good look at those control levers and linkages.

It ll be a few days until I get to check the tractor again, I m on a job away from home for the week .

Ours had a couple of spool valves down by your right hand and a selector valve to switch between the linkage and the spools or some such thing. The selector valve lever was down by your right heal in the cab.

One day, it wouldn't let a trailer down after tipping it, (tipping pipe piped to the linkage cylinder). It turned out to be a problem with the above above mentioned selector valve so we removed it, fitted the special blanking plate and it lived on without the two spool valves which weren't used anyway. Not really sure what had gone wrong with the selector valve.

If I remember correctly there were two flat bars joined in the middle by a bolt with and adjustment slot which joined the cab lever to the selector valve. If this got slack then the valve would not settle in quite the correct position. When the cab lever was in the centre 'linkage' position, the selector lever on the valve itself should be vertical.

I shouldn't really give you this information because some ignorant fecker will soon be claiming I get it from Google. Again.
