Massey 6270 PTO issues....

Hi folks

Have a 6270 giving me some issues.

Had a problem last week were I lost drive/rev counter/lift arms etc. Tried the usual fixes fuse checks etc but ended up getting main dealer out who found a broken wire on feed into the autotronic brain, all seemed to be ok after this was fixed however the PTO is up the left and not working properly.

It seems to work sometimes and will read the display speed on the dash but after a short time the light starts flashing and off it goes. I have re done the switch wire at the mudgard and also fitted a new cab switch yesterday but it made no difference at all.
Only thing I'm wondering is that when I was trying to sort my first problem with the loss of rev counter etc I took the PTO sensor out to check it (as was advised to do to look for dirt on it) and the wires got a little abuse as I screwed it out due to the location and length of the sensor trying to get it unwound and removed.

Is it possible that if the wires got sligjtly damaged or twisted the sensor would be causing the symptoms I'm experiencing with the pto losing drive or am i wasting my time trying a new pto sensor at 100 odd quid?

Also maybe worth mentioning is that when the PTO light starts to flash when it loses drive, turning it off at the switch makes no difference and I have to stop the tractor and re start it to stop the flashing.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

:)

So I done some investigating today and turns out the sensor I had removed to check previous was actually the engine speed sensor from the right hand side of the gearbox area..so this would have nothing to do with the pto playing up at all I would say?

PTO sensor is actually on the rear lower left hand casing and looks like it would be a nightmare to remove as assister ram is in the way and I dont know if it's even faulty anyway?‍♂️

I'm a bit lost now as were to look next..any ideas?

Cheers

Thanks. That's what I wondered myself but was told today engine speed sensor has nothing to do with pto at all ?‍♂️
The engine speed sensor is the long one in the pic below..not easy got it seems either.

I just hate trying sensors and switches and spending £££ on something that is just a guessing game ?

The pto reads the engine speed sensor and pto speed sensor and if there’s a difference in speed it’ll stop the pto so it could still be the problem
Turns out I was wrong again..the sensor I had out was the intermediate gearbox sensor so shouldn't affect or influence pto at all! It's back in now. I haven't touched the speed sensor at the solenoids.

I have also managed to source a second hand pto sensor but looks like the assister ram has to be removed to change it as there isnt enough room..is it worth tryin this pto sensor I have, are they a common cause of pto failure if they mess up?

Thanks again

Tried unplugging the pto sensor but still couldnt get the pto to work or come on at all. Couldn't even get it to work even for a few seconds which it had been doing before on and off.

Is it possible to wire the pto solenoid direct to a new cab switch or would this cause no end of other problems? I know it's not advisable but even to get me going so I can use the tractor for pto work?

Cant get dealer out at all now due to corona virus so looking at other options to get me mobile again.

?

take the connector off the pto brake solenoid then put power to the pto solenoid it will work but if you wire it to anything else but the proper switch you are in deep sh t if anyone gets hurt

Yeah I know what you mean and I dont really want to go down that road if I can manage it tbh.

I would check that the sensor is in the right place first, iirc screw it right in then turn back one turn, they can get slack and screw out over time, either that or just change it, did the one on my 6160 without removing the ram, i think i just took the top pin out.

Just an update....left the tractor with a local mechanic few weeks ago and ended up having to fit a refurbished Auto 3 box AND a new PTO solenoid ?..fairly expensive for two parts but all seems to be sorted now so happy enough.

Thanks for all the help given ??
