How rare are MF 130s. And what value are they approximately. Been told about one , don't know condition yet but told it drives. Are parts available ????

A lighter duty tractor than a 135, not really a fergie in the true sense. French built and seemingly popular there, clever syncromesh gearbox and iirc they were much the same money as a 135 new. Parts will be scarce here, probably easier on the continent.

In June 1965 a 130 cost £690, a 135 was £775, you can understand someone considering the 130 pricewise, but not many actually bought them as the 135 was miles ahead. I've had both and I know which one I wish I kept.

A now 85 Yr old cousin of my father has never had any other make tractor except MF . Started with a TVO 20 , followed by a new 25 , which was basically the same only older version of the 130 . The 25 was replaced by a new 135 , which they still have.

He told me " If MF had stayed making tractors of the quality of that 25 , they wouldn't have been heard of since the early 70s " .

He hated it with a vengeance.

He was appalled when MF closed the Coventry factory , and concentrated production in Beauvais .
25 , 130 , 1080 , 595 were all made there .
All rubbish .
Thankfully , it hasn't turned out as badly as he expected .

The 25 was conceived as a lightweight horticultural tractor to replace the MH Pony and sit below the 35 in the line up, and also appeal to the thousands of French smallholders who still used pedestrian tractors of the Trusty/Anzani type.

As a light weight horticultural machine it is fine, think of it as a better tractor than a BMB President.
The trouble was MF made it a bit more powerful to become the 30 and then made it look like a baby 100 series.
MF brought it in to the UK and marketed it as an agricultural machine- showing it working with implements and trailers out of its league.
Tight farmers bought it as it was cheaper than a 135 and expected it to do the same, which it couldn't- when it inevitably broke they poured scorn on it.
It should never have been marketed as a farm tractor.

Parts are difficult to come by because MF discontinued the 130 in 1972 and that was the end of the 25/30/122/130 line.

I've a preserved 130 use it on a small two furrow plough, Fergie cultivator, ridger etc and it is ok.
In fact it is quite a gutsy performer on a two furrow Fergie plough, dare I say equal to a TE-20?
