Massey Ferguson 6140

Hello,
I’ve seen a few tidy MF 6140s on done deal, one with a 32 speed Dyna shift gearbox. Looking out for a nice tidy tractor that isn’t too expensive. If I was to look at one what should I watch out for? Thanks.

Wear in the pick up hitch, wear in front axle bushings and a rattly 4wd shaft. Check all electrical functions that everything works as should. Check top of cab roof around sun roof for rust and holes. They tend to rust away around that part. Other than that just normal checks like colour of oils and does it run and sound correct

Thanks much appreciated.
Any idea how the gearbox works in them I’ve driven 16 speed but never a 32 speed.

Dynashift is the best gearbox massey have made in my opinion, the 6100 series weren’t their best though, the pre select shuttle caused no end of problems, best thing I did with one of mine was change it to a gear stick.
None the less, I want sad to see the back of mine despite the fact that after a lot of modifications we’d probably sorted the worst of the issues.
6200’s are a far better model

The one I’ve my eye on has 2 gear sticks, so it should be gear stick shuttle shouldn’t it?

Check how second range engages, does the stick go a long way? In my experience the synchro on second can give trouble and it should engage easily - if it doesn't synchro is on the way out.

Silly things to check ,like the pins through lift arms ,they ware badly if its done alot of linkage work ,,the puh lift rods get stretched or worse ,seized solid ,,some folks never used their brains to oil the threads and spin them atleast twice a year,,check the cross shaft for play ,you will soon see any movement by just lifting the arms by hand ,wheel rim bolts ,,they have a locating lug on the bolt head and sometimes if the rims have been of ,the lug didnt allways locate and the bolts go slack
