Mccormick cx105 pto won't engage

I have a 2003 cx105. Same as 895 case I believe. The pto linkage has been really tight through lack of use. The joys of retirement. Yesterday it simply would not go in. I altered the linkage to give it extra travel. It moves a piston near the oil filter. I manually operated it too and still nothing? Any ideas. Thanks.

Is the other lever selecting the 540, 1000 rpm in gear too possibly?
Think 2 leavers on it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've checked that as used to change it regularly. It's got a fairly fresh oil filter too. Guess I'll have to strip it out and see what's what
