As far as I'm aware the total bale count is actually on the machine, had a new box on mine, still showed the same grand total of bales so can't be fiddled.

If it's like the v660 the bale count is on the box I got a lend of the demonstrator baler when I had a breakdown and kept my own box so it didn't put the count on their machine

Stumbled across a 2004 mark 1 Mchale fusion at a dealers yard local to me.... it looks as though it's seen a fair bit of work and is priced accordingly at £12k.
I'm handy with spanners so was thinking I could do it up.
Wouldn't be contracting with it, just our own stuff up to 1000bales a year.
Would it be too much of a gamble at that age of a machine with the complexity of it?[emoji848]

if your handy with the spanners and enjoy or are good at maintenance then get on and get it bought, maintenance and not being scared to spend a few hundred or more on parts will see you well.run older gear here ,big parts bill sometimes but then I think of the lack of depreciation ...

Yeah same here my parts bill per year is eye watering but I look upon it as though I'm not updating machines/tractors regularly so saving a lot that way.

Maybe depends on what the age of the machine is? We traded a v660 for a fusion vario which has the same box as a fusion 3 plus. Completely different from the v660 although I never had a new box on mine so can't comment.

I had a bad year a couple years ago as very quickly spent over 4k in repairs. 2x new tyres, a roller with sprocket and bearings, pickup cam as a bearing went, a few chains and both those sendors on the wrapper unit as those for a 1000 Bale user will be as regular as anyone else at 12-24 months and around £200 x2 and a PTO shaft which Fusions eat for fun:(.

Any way to get sensors for a different supplier, sounds expensive

We had 115000 bales on our original old F1 by the time it cut through the chamber skins (y)
Great machine, it had its advantages and disadvantages compared to the F2 - the bale transfer was much more reliable on the F2 but you could see the shape of your wrapped bale on the F1.
As above, if you don't mind changing the odd bearing and keep the chains in good order they are hard to kill, the 1 you had to keep the slots and slides in the transfer mechanism clean and lubed but I still liked it just fine. Early control boxes were a bit jurassic.

Oh yes those stupid senders, we had 3 or 4 fusions and they all had their little troubles.
Just silly stuff like the cut&holds accumulator leaking and the odd thing going awry, I can't think of a more simple way of putting a row of grass into a wrapped bale though. Very little PTO issues though, but we always did big double headlands and baled them first as a rule which meant no tight turns under load, and shifted the drawbars on the tractors right up where a PUH would be so the front UJ was aligned with the tow eye.
Our main breakage was usually chain until we got better chains on them, but most of our balers would do 35k bales per year.

I say "we" and "ours" but I only worked there as an operator/Mr Fixit
