If I wanted to measure an area around a field, say a 4 m strip around a 10 acre all around the outside is there an easy way to do that , dont have to be exact
Yes, pace it out length and width multiply it, and thats your answer! There are 4840 square yards in 1 acre, or and 4046.86 sq meters in 1 acre...

Getting ready for next year, when Big Don overrules Rees Mogg’s plan to revert to feet and inches?

Happy to use both (we have been using them both in the UK over 200 years, you know), but I do know that most folks find the 10,000 times table easier than the 4840 times one.

And besides, I’d expect the US to prefer we used rods, furlongs, ergs and dynes.

There are lots of apps that measure distance available for your smartphone. Google Earth Pro is free & has a measuring facility for lines, paths, polygons etc.

Draw the field to scale on graph paper, cut it out and weigh it to get the weight of 10 acres, cut off the four metre strip and weigh it again. You can now calculate the area of the perimeter strip.

There is no charge.
