So MEP's have voted against full re authorisation of Glyphosate and a phase out of its use.
Their decision is not binding but it's not looking good.
:mad::mad::mad:

Oh and they also voted for tighter controls on Cadmium that will increase our Phosphate fertiliser costs. What hope in Europe for agriculture?

Does this vote actually count for anything? Or is it just MEPs given a pretend ballot to play with to make themselves feel important?!
I thought the actual vote for relicensing was tomorrow.

See OP

Scoppaf vote tomorrow but it's not looking good when parliament vote by such a majority.
Reckon the decision will run to the wire. Expect a final cop out with a short relicensing term possibly linked to phased withdrawal.
Our best hope is that we have a government that sees sense and it isn't banned before we leave ............ if that ever happens!

Even if there is a replacement ai waiting in the pipeline (as has been suggested on other threads) its sure to be far more expensive and a five year turn around (2022 phase out now seems likely) for approval would be sharp by EU regulatory terms...

I see the main centre-right grouping has stated that no ban should come into place until a viable alternative is available so cling on to that and lets see what tomorrow brings.

Overall though this really is a very sad day for science via a vis politics.

We import food treated with other chemicals that have been banned here. They may have been withdrawn here for different reasons but the underlying premise has been set

But maybe it becomes even more pertinent a question now.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if there is a relicensing agreement tomorrow attached to stewardship agreements to make everyone feel better
