merc ml any good

Reliability of early ones was OK. I had one from 2000 to 2003. Austrian built.

It went very well with the proviso that the ride tended to rock the passengers from side to side rather oddly.
The build quality was horrendous with cheap, badly fitting plastic both inside and out.
From about 2002 or 2003 they were revised to increase perceived quality and almost all were imported from America, where only the petrol earlier ones came from there.

Later again the V6 diesel engines were introduced and these are very reliable on the whole and did away with a separate box section chassis and were all the better for it. Although the styling of these later ones are similar to earlier versions, but with sharper creases and increased quality, they are a totally new monocoque design.

Thinking 09 or 10 ,From 07 it seems a sharper looking body. What are merc 300 cdi engines like to last?
Any issues with 7 speed auto tranny

Loaded questions, because there will be some faults, no matter what vehicle or part of vehicle you ask about.
For the most part the V6 diesel has an excellent record but some have failed after oil changes apparently.
The transmission is superb, but again there is the odd example of sticking valves or solenoids inside.
As long as they work and general inspection reveals no glaring faults and there is evidence of regular servicing, at least every 15,000 miles, I would be more confident buying an used ML than many other vehicles.

I've got a 55 plate ML320, bought it last year, have used it all winter for towing my hay deliveries. No problems so far, very smooth 7 speed auto box, lots of power from the 3l TDi engine. Economy not as good as the old TD5 Disco but given the extra performance thats only to be expected. Off road is the only downside, don't know if its just mine, or that I've got a base model that doesn't have the traction control system, but mine is hopeless off road, nearly got stuck once in a field that the Disco would have had no problem in. Some models say '4matic' on the rear (mine doesn't), so not sure if thats the traction control model to look out for, or all models have it, and mine just doesn't work properly.

A customer of mine who has one (which is a 4matic version) raved about its offroad capabilities, he reckoned it was better than all the Discos, RR and Land Cruisers he's also had over the years. So the jury is out on that point. But as I spend 99.9% of the time on the road with it I'm very happy with mine. I actually look forward to a long delivery trip now, I used the Disco for few long trips last month and I was very pleased when I could get back to the ML.

Got a '10 plate 300 Cdi and it's a great old bus, had 29k when I bought it and near 90k miles now only issue is it likes air bags (suspension) merc charge £1k a corner but you can get them sorted for £300 if you shop around. Fuel wise am getting 500 miles/ tank full when putting around locally and in excess of 620 miles when on long motorway runs. It also likes light bulbs have changed most over the 2 and a bit years of ownership. Would I have another ?oh Yes.

Not one to spend big on motors. I have an elderly 04 ML 270. The 5cyl 165 hp, 3.5t towing. Folks comment how quiet and smooth it is compared to other similar trucks. I do all my own servicing so it is relatively spanner friendly. I'd have another anyway when this one tops 200k miles. Make sure the auto trans has had regular oil changes, I suspect most [authorised] dealers just tick the service done box.

This time last year we had a v8 provisionally bought 30k miles an 08 iirc. Was a lovely jeep. Guy selling it said it was hit, ie a wing and a door. But he was being economical with the truth it was written off at 3 months old. I really would like to have seen how it would have ran over the course of the year.

He could have been telling the truth, it doesn't appear to take much to cat "c" or "d" a car nowadays.

need to drop the gearbox sump and clean the magnet hiding in there.
Also, the mercs is one vehicle that you do need to be wearing the seat belt when driving,
because if the car anticipates you doing an emergency stop it takes over and can stop very very quick.
only downside is lack of sunroof for bunny bashing
