Met Office loses BBC weather forecasting contract

Why does the bbc have to put what's coming up over the next few days showing The capitals of each country. Most of us don't live anywhere near them. Far better to do a North, South, East and West round up!

Considering that most of us spend a large portion of the day discussing what the weather will be tomorrow, the day after, next week, couldn't the forecast be longer than what we presently get with the BBC ?
I'm sure even Joe Public would find a few minutes more each evening on how the next few days will turn out to be informative.

They got £3 mill a year from BBC for crap. They invested £50 mill in a new number cruncher. The problem is that Computers are only fast idiots and if you put crap in the front end you get more out the back. They have yet to acknowledge that the world is getting colder (stuff the Adjusted for global warming figures) and that the programme they used in the late eighties and early nineties was more accurate. Before that f**kwit Al Gore and his swampy pals got involved things were fine. The Mayans Incans Egyptians and pre over pensioned Greeks all studied sun activity.
We are in a reducing phase of sun activity which means the politicians will be able to ice skate up the Thames in 20 years. The Beeb might be full of flip flop wearers but even they can smell a dead rat eventually.

And how accurate was their forecasting ?

They did not forecast temperature increases 1000 years ahead like the global warming fraternity!
What they did forecast was warming or cooling trends.
Do you not notice in recent times the Met office interest in the jet stream. We have an international pilot locally and he has been quoting the effect of this for more than a decade and how it would effect us. They are catching up slowly. The world using unadjusted figures has been getting colder since mid 80's. I agree with that.

I also omitted a zero. They get £30million a year for the garbage they are churning out. According to the Met we are supposed to have been deluged very second day for the last fortnight and have had about 5 mls in that time. Apologies to those that got our share.

Do you really believe the Met Office have not known about the jet stream until recently ?!
I disagree with your statement about the world getting cooler but its not worth arguing about. If you want to believe that then that is what you will believe.
I think you will find that the Met Offices forecasting accuracy compares very well with other groups or individuals. I could be wrong of course but if you are convinced that they churn out garbage I wouldnt bother listening to their forecasts and instead go and find a forecaster who is better.

Now for the longer range forecast, Kidds is going away to North Wales for a few days this week. This will coincide with cold wet and windy weather with brighter warmer weather expected after the Bank Holiday.
Even that forecast was wrong.
It was windy but no rain except a bit in the night.
Back home today and it was hot and sunny as were most days for quite some time now (months)

They say the sun shines on the righteous. :)
