MF 165 power steering

Power assisted steering, new kit, just fitted to tractor, never had power steering fitted before.
212 engine.
Pump bolted on under alternator, connected to timing gear I think. Steering working excellent, very happy.
Had to remove alternator, fitter reckons he might be able to modify existing alternator set up and bolt it back on. Its a generic alternator purchased probably from QTP.
He says plan B is a different alternator, one off a 200 series.
I have no reason to doubt him, but in saying that any advice is welcome if anyone has came across this problem before.

Shouldn't be an alternator on a 165. It should be a dynamo. Must be a big alternator if it fouls on the p/s pump. There is plenty of room on a500/600 series. A different alternator may be the only way

Must be something different about the p/s pump. A standard Lucas type LRA100 alternator can be fitted easily but the mounting bracket needs to be modified to suit as the alternator is a different length to the dynamo. A 200 series alternator is different again in that it has only one mounting bolt to hold it on.(plus the one for adjusting the belt tension). Not as good to use as they tend to vibrate and wear the belt and the bolt holes.

The bracket / hole right tight to the top edge of the pump is one point where the alternator was attached. As can be seen it was clearly in the way. Hopefully it can be tweaked and I won't have to buy a new alternator

Don't quite understand the set up here. There should be a complete bolt on bracket just above the pump that has two holes inline with one another. Can't just see that in the picture. A dynamo was mounted on it irrespective of whether there is powered steering or not. To fit an alternator, this bracket needs modified as an alternator is shorter than a dynamo. However a dynamator would be a direct fit, again providing the bracket is in place.
Which charging device was fitted before the new pump?

There was /is an alternator, generic tractor one about 5 years old purchased from local motor factors. Id post a pick but the fitter took it with him.
Was talking to him today, he reckons he will be back on Saturday and should be able refit the same alternator, with a different bracket to keep it far enough away from the pump.
