Yes we fitted many opico kits. It's the 318.2 engine so there shouldn't be a problem. We never had any failures. When a 698 with an aftermarket turbo was traded for a 699 these always had be tweaked to be on a par.

hi has anyone fitted a turbo to a standard 698 ? yes there is a 698t but i am told they have a differant engine
The 698 we had in 84 was fitted with one from TB turbos from Lancaster(don’t think they are still going now) straight out stainless exhaust so quite noisy and the turbo whistle was tremendous. Pulled like an absolute train until about 4000 hrs and then everything else on the tractor gave up, gearbox, transmission, clutch etc. Engine wasn’t bad for reliability, only needing a head gasket once iirc. Great power to weight ratio, used ours for top work with duals all round and would tread very light.
I can remember the dealer saying that the engines had been modified to take a turbo but that could of been rubbish, it was one of the last ones made with the A4.3182 engine before they brought out the 698T.
Don’t know about fitting one on an older tractor if it’s done a fair few hours though.

698 used the Perkins 4.318 engine which is one of the worst engines they ever made.
698T used the 4.236 plus a Turbo. The 4.236, being one of the best ever made and at one time, the most common 4 cylinder Diesel engine in the world.

I’d not try Turbo-ing a 4.318, if I were you.
