Mf 7480 vario fault

Hi all, I have a massey 7480 tier 2 with about 6700 hours on the clock. I have an issue with the vario jumping into neutral when you go down hill. When it faults I have the hare and tortoise light flashing between the to. I have had someone come out and have a look at it. They think it might be the fork selector in the box. Has anyone else experienced this before? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I’m sure there’s something where dirt builds up around the external actuator fork, we had it on ours but it was 10 years ago now so don’t clearly remember

Thank you for your reply, did yours go in to neutral when going down hill? Also I think it’s done it when the mechanic drove it in pedal mode and stopped quickly.

There is a small cover on the LH side of the gearbox at the end of the Hare/Tortoise selector cable. Dirt can build up under this.
Also on the RH side of the gearbox by the stepper motor at the other end of the cable there is a pivot where it can be manually controlled. This can sometimes seize up.
