This may just be a can of worms I'm opening here but looking at changing a tractor. And looking at people's experiences of the above 2 and seeing what the actual difference is between them?

Any info would be taken into consideration. Had too many issues with new Holland of late so not thinking there and haven't heard the best of things with regards to the r series John deere. Hence asking the hive mind.

Many thanks and sorry to one and all if the worms spill everywhere from the can!

Have a drive, a chat to your dealer, get to know your tractor, please yourself with both - first priority is to like your tractor and dealer secondly.

Opinions posted to threads like these are unfortunately often extremely biased.
Good point! Have tried one going to speak to someone about the other. Cheers for the response though.

Got lots of popcorn ready for this , the correct answer is buy a valtra others will be along shortly to tell you why.
I thought it would end up being a epic battle of red vs whatever colour you want! The Valtra is what I had originally looked at and we liked it - it however was a T234a we had tried as that was all that was available

Had a 6480 then a 7620 where I used to work as the 'rough' tractors purely becuase they are cheap, the main tractors were deeres. The list of faults, Go over a bump you hit your head on the roof, awful passenger seat, no cab storage or space for enything, turning circle of a cruise ship. panels falling off, wing mirrors break for fun, exhausts break off as they're so heavy, no matter how much threadlock or nylocks you put on the mudguards they still come loose all the time, horrendous front axle popping when 4wd engages when breaking, very uneven tire wear, gearbox issues with both, no view at all of the pickup hitch, buttons stop working for fun as well as sensors. Could go on for ever, best top link and holder on the market though!

I run all valtra including a t254 versu , it's a great tractor with a great transmission , from talking to lads with massys they seem to be getting more trouble than the valtras give, I was talking to a top Agco man at a show and he was agreeing with me that the Massey is giving more trouble than valtra , he said that the Massey built in France has issues that they can't iron out as the French won't take instruction from agco. He said that agco were pushing valtra at the expence of Massey . I was talking to a big valtra dealer in Scotland who was a Massey dealer up to two years ago and he is delighted with the switch. That's my two pence worth , it's your money spend it wisely .

Valtra Ts on the rise round these parts, our local AGCO dealer sells MF as well and generally says the Valtra fits in well between the MF and Fendt ranges. New MF range looks snazzy, Valtra looks classy(y)

Seriously cheap and rough , tractors these days are a pleasure to use , some of the gun hoe crowd today need to have their arse on old tractors for a season to realise they how easy they have got it.

“Here you go, today your on this IH 784 2wd” “It only has one brake, so don’t push both pedals down at the same time as you will have none - oh and it will jam in gear if you hurry it from reverse”

“ See you at lunch time”

Im still trying to erase the horror of driving an MF290 for the summer back in 1991 with its wonderful "between the knees" gearchange, rock hard seat and noisy and leaky cab!! And to be honest someone who had to drive an old cabless grey Fergie with a metal seat whilst ploughing in winter come frost, rain or sleet wearing only a mac and a tweed hat would have thought the 290 a "bloody luxury".
There really are no bad tractors these days, just good ones and better ones.

We bought a valtra direct, never been near them before. Really liked the control screen, very easy to use even for us thickos. Comfy, tight turning circle, good visibility (puh less so), some nice quirky touches and 5yr/6000hr warranty.

Looked at mf 7720, it looks the business but in the cab is a buggers muddle. A screen (that looked like the original fendt vario one from 15yrs ago) for some tractor functions, but some functions are done on the dash keypad and then the separate gps screen is mounted where you can’t reach it. Some spools are electric, some manual. Just didn’t take to it at all.

Then came the hilarity of needing over £10k to put a 5000hr extended warranty on it and a quote for servicing in the warranty period of £11,750 for 5000hrs.

MF got a sisu engine same as the valtra yet that had 6000hr warranty in the (ultimately lower) price, and it has a fendt back end and fendt needed just under 6k for a 6000hr warranty on a 720. So how come MF needed £10k to back their product?

I know there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors involved in the pricing, but I came away thinking MF aren’t even on the same page, just hope the valtra does ok...........
