MF 8240 power shift???

I’ve been looking for a cheap backup tractor and one to do some grain carting for a while now, and I’ve seen an ‘03 MF 8240 power shift with 7000 hours come up for sale at auction
I have experience with 6400 Dyna 6’s but not so much these.
What should I look for?
Is the power shift box reliable and user friendly?
What should it make?

I've got the same dilemma over whether to buy an 8260, driven and used it , feels overweight and a bid slow. But ok to drive. Think that powershift box need a steady driver ,with a bit of mechanical sympathy.

The funk powershift is a good enough unit if treated properly. It may need clutch packs replaced in time but sure what tractor doesnt need wearin parts replaced

sh-t in my opinion if the dashboard doesnt work properly run . no new ones no used ones david king cant always bring them back to life . some people love them but i dont. if they are going forward all day they are ok its the back and forward they dont like
the dashboard controls the gearbox if you were wondering

Just calibrate the box once a year and it should be fine.dont lift the revs off when changing it makes it jump.like any old tractor make shure everything works ok.

we had a Vplate 8260 kept it several years never put a foot wrong ,but as said above just have a good look . if possible take someone with you who understands them

Contractor in southland nz I worked for ran them , he reckoned the clutch plates lasted longer if you didn’t calibrate them, the changes on his were brave and jerky
