Been at the dealers today, and from what the mechanic tried to explain to me in his mechanical terms... The bearings and Planitery gears smashed and then wore the shaft and the housing internally.

I don't know what your trying to imply when you say you doubt it's down to bad luck...!

I'm implying that there must be a reason for the failure or failures. What was the cause? Something must have instigated the ultimate failure. Was it a collapsed bearing? Maybe a fatigue failure? Some kind of contaminant? What was its history before you bought it? Since you've had it? Whatever it was, it was not 'bad luck'. It was a failure of some component or components caused by something. It may have been your bad luck to have it happen to you, if that is any comfort.

It was a bearing or [ring?] gear failure then. Was there signs of unusual wear on the gears or bearings that preceded the big bang? Does someone know whether this part failing is known to happen occasionally to the Fendt Vario transmission? I am particularly interested because I own one and have been ploughing over the weekend and mowing with it this afternoon. These are the things I would want to know.

ps. I did warn you that sods law would ensure that some minor part being unavailable would probably delay things and that there would probably be teething troubles. These predictions were not a result of fortune telling or time travel, they were based on too many year's experience.

I'm sorry, don't know the rest. Will hopefully maybe have some more answers soon after we have spoke to somebody who can tell us more etc...

Mine failed because a lubrication pipe snapped off, causing a bearing to run dry, it then disintegrated and buggered the lot. There was no warning whatsoever, drive just stopped.
