MF165 clutch

I bought a new complete 11" clutch for my MF165 multipower
Clutch fits flywheel but I guess they changed casting on the main clutch cover!!!
Adjusting tool won't fit the machined rear face. And 1" distance to the finger screws seems to tight.
If I measure from the bell housing front face to clutch release bearing.
and compare same distance from engine rear face to finger screws.
Then the screws should be almost all the way in to allow no tension on the release bearing when clutch is disengaged.
More like ½" adjustment seems right for the fingers.

Am I way off here?

Well I got it from QTP.
they don`t specify serial numbers.
Org should be 891 983 M94 or (886 388 M91)
I got the 2692R from QTP only one to fit the size description (Less springs though)
Did I get the wrong one:unsure:
It seems to fit fine. only the cover is a bit different.

Aye, the thrust bearing needs to go backwards as the clutch wears, so assuming it had been adjusted through its case of working life, it will be to far back, and needs to come forward for new clutch,
So adjust the clutch linkage on outside,
some new clutch covers come with 3 bolts threaded in to compress the cove for ease of fitting, these are to be removed once fitted, the bolts hold the fingers in and allow to fit the 6 cover bolts,, if the 3 bolts are still in, this will make plate loose and fingers will be close to the cover,
Cover castings vari from manufacturer to manufacturer,

the 3 compression bolts are removed.
outside clutch linkage is loosened.
We are starting from zero!!

So what you are saying is. I should adjust the fingers even shorter?

Yes, thrust fork is all the way back.
I`m sure the clutch was set. the bolts were sealed with some paint or lacquer.
according to my measurements the clutch would have been depressed close to 1 cm with the clutch pedal disengaged.
Therefor I adjusted the bolts inwards to match the thrust bearing.
As I understand. You say I should have a lot more play here, and adjust the forkshaft. To compensate for later wear.

As far as I can see in the Agco parts list,there are two different numbers for the clutch cover depending on the serial number of the tractor. Don't know what the differences would be though. Also should be 12 springs but if less it is likely a light duty kit.

Yes it is the old model. (Part number above)
I could not find a clutch with 12 springs.
The one I got has 6. I was told these new springs are stronger therefor only 6. There are room for 12 though.
I think you can tell by what color they are painted. My old springs has no color, so I can`t compare.
