MF240 useless hydraulics when cold

Our little scrapper tractor struggles to lift the scrapper when cold, if I rev the tits off her she’ll just about do it! If I run her up the road, she’s fine, thinking blocked filter, has 10/40w engine oil, last changed about 2 years ago??

Engine oil in hyds maybe not the best??!!! Too thick I think.
UTO be better? MF experts will know what is the correct stuff and if you have any filters or screens need changing or replacing.

Back in day before all the fancy oils ,we put 20-50 Castrol into the engines and gear box ,,and when the 500-600 range came out ,they got the same stuff .
Wasnt untill the 3000 came out did they need seperate oils.

Might drop the oil out and wash filters in petrol and refill with jdf liquidmatic then as per the Morris site. Local repairer reckons it’s the pump rather than my oil. Put a new pump in 11 years ago and even then it wouldn’t pick the aerator up well unless you reved the nads off her!

On our old 135 MP, if it is slow to lift it usually either needs an oil change, the filter needs cleaning or changed, or do both. The filter I am talking about is the one located in side the casing and only accessible by removing the plate where the PTO lever is (bit of a pain of a job). Don't know if the 240 has a filter in that location though.
Also is the little hydraulic speed control lever that is located next to the back end dipstick set at its fastest rate?

Could be a filter. Could be a worn piston and cylinder. Could be the control valve on the suction side of the pump or the pump itself.
As long as the oil is wet and not a thick gear oil like EP90, these tractors aren't particularly fussy unless specified with hydraulic iPTO.
If it has reasonably clean looking oil in the gearbox, my first guess would be the lift ram, but it really needs someone experienced with this very very well established system to have a look at it in the metal.

Take off the triangle plate under the centre housing and drop out the filter. Wash it or better still replace it. Refill with suto. You say it was useless after you replaced the pump? Did you check the pressure control valve, mk111a valve, lift cylinder?

Oddly she behaved herself today, did ten scrapes into the midden then it died completely, barely lifts without the scrapper. Thinking pressure relief valve now? Fortunately requisitioned another scrapper tractor now.
