MIG Welder Recommendation for Farm Workshop Duty

We are looking to replace a 15 year old Sealy 200(?) MIG welder. we have been recommended an ESAB Rebel 215ic by local welding supplies specialists which sounds pretty impressive but comes in at £1,150 + VAT. I don't mind investing in the right kit if its going to last and be reliable but we don't do massive amounts of welding so wonder if its overkill for us. I would welcome any alternative suggestions from people of well regarded better than entry level kit. Thanks

You don’t have to spend a lot, I got my 300amp Cebora for£500 on eBay, must be 10 years ago now and Do quite a lot of fabrication, only just bought a new torch for it, been 100% reliable. If you can find a liquidation sale that is convenient enough eg (don’t know anything about that make though)

Warrior are extremely good. They are made in Bristol. They do some very impressive machines for the money. Like for like they will have better duty cycle than a lot of main brands. We have 1 single phase machine. It makes as nice weld as our migatronic and fronius.

I bought a tec arc 400 amp welder in single phase and its very good (same as oxford) it was 1400 plus vat with a few extra and seperate wire feeder. You can also get smaller migs which are cheaper. Only downside was about 1 month waiting list to get mine but was worth it

Bought a fronius TPS 3 phase 300 amp,2nd hand, by far and away the best and easiest to set welder I have ever used. What ever you buy make sure you have an appropriate power supply to it!
Cost me less that the prices you are talking of for a rebel!

As others have suggested, an industrial secondhand unit can provide an alternative option to buying new and potentially save loads on a new machine. We got a Lincoln CV-400 I, off eBay for way less than your budget it came with separate wire feed and was good to go. Admittedly it ain't shiny and new but will weld all day long at serious power without needing to cool off. You are taking a gamble with this route however. If you're after an out of the box solution that just works then @Welding Supplies Direct i'm sure will offer a solution that would suit your needs. Like a Jasic 250 or Oxford 270, both very nice sets with the added bonus of being new. ESAB are very good units but you are paying a little for the name so maybe not getting as much bang for your buck, especially if your not requiring the multi-process ability?

if you are welding too close to your material or you are building up too much heat the tip of the wire can actually weld itself onto the tip of your welding gun. This looks like a little blob of metal at the tip of your gun and you'll know when you have this problem because the wire won't come out of the gun anymore. You can find more details here

Look up fastarc. Kirby in Ashfield near derby. Bought a 500 amp esab New separate wire feed. Was 500£. Old. Sounds like a jet when running , had 4 years use out of it. , when it dies will just buy another
Spaldings. Pushing an Oxford 380 amp 3 phase. At £1300
