We quarterly tested Johnes for 5 years. Still threw up the odd medium one so I wouldn't use it in isolation.

We tested 6 months after a TB test and that just cocked everything good and proper.
Our vets are now saying to use tb test as primer for johnes test, so test 10 days after tb test, not sure about it myself

We test for johnes day before tb testing
Had same issues with a cow 16 tests (over 4 yrs ) low johnes ,then started scoring and tested positive and then had highest test ever
The more stress the cows are under the easier they are to find
Normally show up on a spring calving herd when there in the service period

Think it's more to do with the avian injection being made from johnes, so the immune system kicks in better, as milk sampling is a immune response and not a level of johnes.

Also the test is rubbish, had 2 cows break down this spring with 4 years of reading of below 10.
That's not unusual, and is the nature of the beast that is Johnes. Which is why we have been testing for years, have protocols in place to control, cull anything that has 2 high results, but still get the odd one, ( a red every 2 years or so) despite a closed herd.

Cows give 25l/day x 4 days = 100 litres-enough to feed a calf for 20 days. If you only keep 305 of your calves you can feed them for 2 months on waste milk.

As for Johnes, as has been said the test is wrong as often as it's right-might as well toss a coin.

My vet said the same regarding priming.

Same here regarding testing, although we went TB free the other day.

very nice to see firms telling Tesco, no, we will not sell to you.
how the mighty are fallen, how must tesco bosses feel ?
if 2 firms, have ceased trading with them, rather suspect there are some interesting conversations, going on, behind closed doors.
Could it be the end of the large retailers, stranglehold ?
for certain, we are moving from price takers, to price setters, and other producers are finding the same, l would think.
After decades, of processors dancing to their tune, to think those days may be over, hardly seems possible.
Perhaps, for the first time, in many decades, we are selling product, into a 'free' market, relying on supply v demand, as we should always have been.

I can’t see that has happened at all. They’ve not said they won’t sell to Tesco. They’ve said this is our price, take it or leave it. Tesco have said no thanks. They’ve got similar products to sell so I doubt they’re overly worried or they would’ve accepted the price & passed it on to the customer. I struggle to see how its really news.

Is that just a basic price or are there bonuses deductions for hygiene, cells, bf p ?

So our coop atm, pays a bonus if both bf and P are above standard litre and a 1.75ppl bonus for 20 bacto and 250 scc
Its the Base price.
Bonus for fat and protein
Cells over a certain level get you a fine by the dairy otherwise there is no bonus for low cells.
