What are figures worth when GB rise in production in September has gone from +5.3% to only + 2.5% in a few days. Thats at least 25 million litres that have disappeared in one revision - or getting on for the best part of a day's production !

I'm just because we have calved a lot of cows recently and thought they could have been milking better but if they are producing good solids I should be happier with them? I'm not a solids man!

That is seriously respectable production @supercow
Does that reflect a higher output compared to the last couple of years?
I am thinking of the supposed Fm milk deficit, and speculating that existing members can go a good way to meeting it as we return to "proper" production levels.
I know I am getting a kick out of seeing the cows milk well, I had forgotten what it was like. ( not as good as yours though)

2.548 fat and 4.698 protein. We do get a volume bonus but nothing special, .8 more for 5000 litres or more, .9 for 6000.
so apart from the .8 you are not paid for litres but the fat and protein in them.

Is there any way you can compare this yrs production with last yr? this would give you at least a feel of where you are. I would suggest they are milking well . but then I have very little knowledge of what Holsteins should be doing !

Thanks! Don't get a lot of appreciation in this job do you, nice for someone to say your cows are doing well now and again, (who isn't your feed rep!) you saying that makes me happier with them, as I say I take notice of fat and protein but always get told in this area litres count and when u have fellas averaging 35/36 litres u wonder if your own cows are doing well enough 29/30 litres. Getting in calve well at the minute aswell. Saying this just as we are about to finish our good second cut and onto either our distinctly average third or first cut. With first milk or Arla if ur fat and protein is average ur going to get an average milk price. Where as muller pay well for white water! (Que the muller guys with 5 fat 4 protein)

I think production is roughly the same, protein is up .1 I think, they are getting maize in both parlour cake and blend as the main ingredient. Was averaging 30 litres last year too, last couple of years we struggle to get above 30 litres but fat and protein is a lot better than previous years. Up here the first thing u get asked is 'what litres you doing' when is fact you should be asked what litres are you doing and what constituents
