Everyone was saying the same all over Europe in the drought of 2018 but it never materialized. People had better quality wholecrop and silage and just fed more concentrate to make up the shortfall. Cows probably milked better for it. The biggest fly in the ointment this time is the lack of byproducts because of the shutdown.

I would agree. Very impressed with the Woodcock family

Trouble is, I have no idea what I’m being charged for haulage 6 miles ..
Probably the same as @Headless chicken but I do know what I could be paid if we were prepared to haul in ourselves

My haulage is not doubt very reasonable. I’d be disappointed if we didn’t see north of 35ppl this autumn. Suspect it could be nearing on 40 if things pan out.

its all down to, what do you think the market will 'do', we peaked at 35.5ppl, nov, seasonality included, +2.1ppl, but that's when the cows begin to dry up, av over the year, 30.8ppl, so, where would be tempted to 'fix', certainly not, if the buyer was pushing it. My gut feeling, is milk will firm later on in the year, the dumping, and the limits of a and b, will have had a small effect on a cows av yield, chuck in a drought, unless you feed the cows well, the drought will hit hard, Looking at cow price, which is strong, indicating farmers want milk, together, strong prices on milk, and barreners, tends to mean, more go barren, to buy fresh, autumn milk is definitely wanted, and prices are at a premium, again, indicating a shortage of milk, going into the autumn/winter. The danger, for farmers, is feeding the cows now, both spr and autumn calvers, will easily shed liters now, if not fed correctly, and grubs dear, so, not so good. Of course, a second wave of c19, will bagger the whole lot again !

They reckon milk jobs gonna be short come Autumn now don't they, it'll serve some of these processors right if they lose market share, I wonder if they'll be casualties

the trouble is, if they go down, who do they take ? While I think the loss of 1 or 2 of the scum processors, would be a positive, its how do they go, without hurting farmers ? with extended payment terms, it could finish off a farmer or two, as well.
