I was quoted £217 for ground Maize and £371 for soya (Nov-Apr)Ground maize at £220 for 12 months and soya in £380s seems ok?
Fert at 300 hold tightId say if milk holds steady/slow rise and costs come back nicely as they are it will be a ok year?
Remember I’m in arse end of nowhereI was quoted £217 for ground Maize and £371 for soya (Nov-Apr)
Interest rates easing towards the end to hopefullyGiven where milk price might be, what fert is now and what you can lock in straights for. I think it will be another very profitable year.

Inputs rather than outputs have been the problem, some eased considerably, others not so, interest rates and electricity the major ones.Agreed. But many speak of the need for a 40p plus base to make things work and that ain’t happening soon.

What’s too far ? £500 a cow £2000? We all have a tolerance. Mines increasing towards 0That may still be the case next year. Inputs may go skyward if the problems in the red sea exacerbate. No one thought that Israel and Gaza would actually be at war 6 months ago or that the Houthis would start firing on foreign ships. If that conflict widens further, god forbid, then the prices we saw 18 months ago could be a drop in the ocean. Some inputs you always need, such as electricity, but in this current climate, probably the most uncertain in the last 50 years, I personally think you would be mad to stretch yourself too far with borrowed money.

Iv just worked our out and it stands at nearly 5x that high figure but seams comfortable. Debt drives motivation/risk. Business is all risk, balancing risk is key I guess.I best give up
If I am working that out right that must be hard going though especially with milk price where they are at the moment. ?Iv just worked our out and it stands at nearly 5x that high figure but seams comfortable. Debt drives motivation/risk. Business is all risk, balancing risk is key I guess.
Who me ?oh you grumpy old crumudgion
The 600 interest isn't the problem it's the repayment and the tax in all that repayment. If I am working that out right that must be hard going though especially with milk price where they are at the moment. ?
That’s mortgage, hp & overdraft combined, I can think of a lot in similar situation. I guess we probably are tight with spending etc but having started from scratch we have always grown by borrowing, so know no different. Even with high debt we have a far more secure business now that when starting out.If I am working that out right that must be hard going though especially with milk price where they are at the moment. ?
