Yes very true if 10k a cow but got other income streams then it very different story.
Was told by bank manager once 5/6k a cow is durable but 7k plus gets hard.
I heard similar, above £5k/cow starts to concern lenders, but that was 3+ years ago and there has been a lot of inflation since.

At the end of the day if you have a good amount borrowed you won't have to worry about the tax man!

Those who brag they haven't got much borrowed in theory will be paying a lot of tax, IF they are good at farming!
You got to be making money to service debt, you can’t spend the cash on repairs/machinery if debts need servicing. Interest from debt is the only element that can be classed as a cost.

Never once talked about how many cows to my bank manager, haven’t seen a bank manager in four years, unfortunately my new bank manager of two years wants to meet us🙄

I’ve no o/d,finance or rent, just a big mortgage,if I did it again I’d pay less capital off,bad enough paying the mortgage then 40% of tax ontop.

So depreciation, mortgage and tax. Just sounds a bit static think they’ll only want a bit of a catch up on your ideas for the next period.

we have to talk to ours, by telephone e'mail, at the other end of the country, mentioned last yr, might need some money to buy land, a local manager phoned next day, to talk about 'it'.

other than the yearly OD renewal, haven't spoken to them for several yrs, nor to a manager when we had one, down here.
