Mites in treated grain.

I have about 25t of winter barley that was treated back in July with Buffer grain and was sheeted well for about two and a half to three weeks. It has analysed well and we have been feeding it since August. However it was feeling rather warm the other day and I notice what looked like the signs of mite infestation, I stuck the probe in and it was 50 degrees. Spears have been stuck in and have got it back below 35 degrees.

Anyway has anybody had mites in treated grain and if so how did you tackle it.

TIA

We had a problem with Mites in treated grain - I’d forgotten id mentioned it. I put it down to poor mixing when we tried maxammon which is two pack product - no problems with home and dry
oh,
and no i haven't had a problem with h& d either but then i haven't had the experience of using it on over about 18 % max. tbh.

In our situation it was towards the back of the clamp at the end of the season. It wasnt partiularly deep so I took the affected area off with a showel and sent it to the muck pile.

to elaborate - the maxammon products seemed to form a horrible rubber like substance that completely gummed up the auger at the bottom of the crimper - the grain that was going through whilst that was building up couldnt have got its proper dose.

i only treat whole grain not bruised , because its for sheep so that helps preservation possibly or less Chance of heating ? and through a mixer wagon for thorough mix.
I should think the best /easiest /quickest thing the op could do would be to spread out thinly if theres space , and the weather is coming cooler through this week i believe.

Just let it heat. Ours was black when we fed it. Still analysed okay and cattle ate it fine.

We stopped using it because it always heated. They blamed mites but couldn't see any.

I had issues with h&d treated grain last year heating/turning brown. I used mainly propcorn this year but did about 20t with h&d to use up left over stuff. I didn’t cover it this year as it left a lot of moisture under cover last year which spoilt top few inches of pile. Seems to have kept better but time will tell
